New drinking water well to be drilled near fire station

The City will begin drilling a new water production well in early March on property it owns adjacent to Fire Station No. 10 near the southeast corner of Chandler Heights and McQueen roads.
Twenty-nine active wells supply Chandler with water from aquifers underlying the City. As the wells age, well production declines, requiring the drilling of new wells. The new well will be 1,500 feet deep and is expected to produce approximately 1,500 gallons of water per minute.
The drilling of a well requires non-stop drilling, meaning the drill rig will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The actual drilling will last approximately one month. A separate project for the equipping of the well will follow the drilling operations.
Arizona Beeman Drilling was awarded a $938,240 contract in January to perform the work.
