Debbie ReynoldsChandler Hamilton Library remembers Debbie Reynolds
Last December, millions of fans worldwide mourned the death of the beloved entertainer Debbie Reynolds. From 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday, April 1, 2017 the Chandler Hamilton Library will host a free tribute to Reynolds performed by local singer and actress Jan Sandwich. The Hamilton Library is at 3700 S. Arizona Ave.
Reynolds was a legendary actress, singer and successful businesswoman, and Sandwich will share life stories and song stylings of the great star of stage and screen. Sandwich has entertained throughout Arizona and the Southwest for more than 25 years. Her charm and enthusiasm during her shows are contagious and encourage audience participation.
Music fans are also able to download many Debbie Reynolds songs from Freegal, a free music service available to Chandler Public Library cardholders. There is no software to download, and there are no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions. Freegal offers access to millions of songs, including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists, and more than 15,000 music videos.
Downloadable Debbie Reynolds music includes:
  • “Tammy” - Debbie’s biggest hit, which spent 5 weeks at #1 in 1957; a sweet and sentimental love ballad, beautifully sung with a lush orchestra accompaniment.
  • Fine and Dandy (1960) an upbeat and energetic album of swinging standards- a great introduction to Ms. Reynolds’s recording career, with lively renditions of “Ain’t We Got Fun”, “You’re the Cream in My Coffee”, and “Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries”.
  • Summer Romance (2011) a compilation of two of her early records, Debbie (1959) and Am I That Easy to Forget? (1960) a fantastic collection of jazz standards perfectly tailored for her unique voice.
  • Irene [1973 Broadway Revival Cast] Debbie was coaxed from her long-running Vegas career to star in a Broadway revival of the seminal 1919 musical. Check out the wonderful “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows”.
