Chandler Public Library Summer Reading Program begins June 1
Building A Better World is the theme of the 2017 Summer Reading Program at Chandler Public LibrariesThe 2017 Summer Reading Program at the Chandler Public Library starts June 1, 2017, and runs through August 1. The theme of this year’s program is “Build a Better World!” and programs for kids, teens and adults will focus on how participants can build a better world in their own lives and their surroundings.
Each of Chandler’s four library locations will host kickoff events in early June featuring local authors, discussions about local geography, visits from Aurora the beautiful Bald Eagle and her handler Eagle Joe, plus activities like making “sub-zero” ice cream.
School age children benefit from reading every day, even during school breaks, so they won’t lose valuable reading comprehension skills that they have learned in school. By participating in the Summer Reading Program, children develop positive attitudes about reading, books, and the library. When the entire family participates in the program, older siblings and parents can model good reading behavior for the younger kids.
The focus of the Summer Reading Program, for all ages, will be to read 20 minutes a day and track it online through Maricopa County Library District’s website. Tracking forms will be available for children so that they will be able to easily monitor their reading time themselves, which can be then logged later by an adult or teen volunteer at one of our libraries. Teens and adults will be able to enter for raffle prizes, including a Kindle Fire.
