Meeting will discuss improvements to Arizona Avenue

The City is planning various roadway and streetscape improvements to Arizona Avenue between Frye and Pecos roads and is holding an informational meeting to discuss the upcoming construction.

The meeting is scheduled from 6-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Chandler Senior Center, 202 E. Boston St., and will provide the public with an opportunity to ask questions of the project team. Two prior meetings were held with property owners, businesses and residents to obtain input on the design.

Improvements to the stretch of Arizona Avenue from Chandler Boulevard to Frye Road were completed in 2010. This second phase from Frye Road south to Pecos Road will begin in January 2018, and be completed in October, 2018.

Improvements to Arizona Avenue will include wider sidewalks, bicycle lanes, raised medians, street lighting, storm drainage, signage, waterline improvements, traffic signal modifications and hardscape and landscape enhancements. In addition, 1,700 feet of an aging waterline beneath Frye Road will be replaced west of Arizona Avenue.

Roads will remain open during construction and business and resident access will be maintained. Lane restrictions may be in place to shift traffic away from work zones.

“We understand the importance of keeping traffic flowing and access open to our downtown businesses,” said Kim Moyers, Chandler’s downtown redevelopment manager. “We want people to know they can continue to enjoy all downtown has to offer through this period of construction.”

The streetscape improvements are part of a larger vision to enhance the pedestrian friendly feel of the City’s core and a new entryway, or “front door”, into downtown from the Loop 202/Santan Freeway.

Kreuzer Consulting Group performed the engineering design and J. Banicki Construction, Inc., will construct the improvements. The hardscape and landscaping design work was accomplished by J2 Engineering & Environmental Design.
