Chandler City Council names René Lopez Vice Mayor

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Chandler City Council voted unanimously during its Jun. 28 meeting to elect Councilmember René Lopez as the City’s new Vice Mayor. Lopez will serve in the position until January 2019. 

"I am very honored and privileged to serve the residents of Chandler as Vice Mayor. I look forward to working with Mayor Tibshraeny and each of my fellow council members to advance the City in this new role," said Vice Mayor Lopez.

Lopez has served on the City Council since January 2015 and is a third generation Arizona native, born and raised in the East Valley. He previously served two years as a board member on the City’s Parks and Recreation Board.

He graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, with a minor in Direct Energy Conversion.

Lopez is a third generation U.S. Navy veteran, who served as a Naval Officer and honorably separated from the Navy in 2000 as a Lieutenant with more than four years of service. After traveling and moving with the U.S. Navy and as a Project Manager, he moved to Chandler in 2007 to live and work.

He has an extensive career in Project Management, with more than 15 years of experience working in telecommunications, energy and information technology.

He is married to Jessica and they have two children: Brianna and Andrew.

Vice Mayor Lopez is seeking reelection in 2018 for a second term on the City Council.
